Property Location:   Luana Kai is located towards the north end of Kihei.  This offers quick access to Mokulele Highway to cross the island to the north side.  Lahaina will be approximately 30-40 minutes by car, and Wailea only 10-15 minutes by car.  Kihei offers a variety of shopping, with several large grocery stores; Foodland, Safeway (the largest in Hawaii), and Star Market.  There are plenty of restaurants (including the usual fast food chains), and small shops catering to tourist needs.

Beach Quality:   Beach quality in front of Luana Kai is rated average, and can have sea weed.  Although many windsurfers launch from this property, please be extremely cautious, as the reef is very shallow at low tide.     Note:  beaches in this area can become windy in the afternoon.
The Kamaole beaches of Kihei, or the beaches of Wailea are within a 5-15 minute drive.

Property Description and Amenities:   Luana Kai has four buildings, each with three stories.  Two buildings sit at a slight angle, facing over the pool, but having a partial view to the ocean.  The other two buildings face directly to the ocean, with perfect views (note: best views will always be from the second or third floor).  The grounds are landscaped with tropical plants and trees, and have a nice open, spacious feeling.  Large lawns front directly to the ocean and beach (note: beach quality is average).  Sitting between the oceanfront buildings and the ocean are two tennis courts. The pool area has a small cabana, lounge chairs, a swimming pool, and hot-tub.  There is plenty of on ground parking (no charge).

One bedroom units are located on the first or second floors.  Two bedroom units are on the first, second and third floors.  There is (1) three bedroom unit on the end of each building on the third floor.  All third floor units are loft style, with one of the bedrooms being elevated a full story above the living area.

The grounds feature swimming pool, hot-tub, two tennis courts, and BBQ areas.

Unit Description and Amenities:  All units have living room/dining/kitchen on the front of the unit, opening with sliding doors to a  patio/lanai.  The bedrooms are tucked to the back of the units, and have only small windows.
Units are fully equipped with kitchen (fridge, stove, D/W, microwave), ceiling fans, cable TV (deluxe units with VCR)  insuite laundry, and telephone.  There is no A/C at Luana Kai.
The units at Luana Kai are divided into two categories - standard and deluxe.  The deluxe units have some amenities that the standard units do NOT - upgraded furnishings, VCR, CD/cassette stereo, lounge chairs, and a larger capacity washer/dryer.

Our Opinion:    This is a great choice, and a great value as well!  The grounds are lovely, and Luana Kai is a bit smaller than most properties.  Their staff gets our #1 vote for the "spirit of Aloha".
